This year’s Boot Camp was held from February 14-17, 2018 at Camp Allen, Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Cartwheel, through our Country Director, was tapped as a panelist on the discussion on “Working with and Understanding Communities”. We were glad to share with the young participants our experiences and lessons learned from Project LUSOG and collaborating with indigenous communities, local government institutions, and private sector partners. The Ideas Positive teams are slated to work with different kinds of communities – rural, urban, indigenous, non-indigenous, and more. While Coleen and the other panelists came from a range of perspectives, they all agreed on the core principles of working with any type of community. Ultimately, the discussion highlighted the need for local participation, community decision-making and ownership, and stakeholder relationships in achieving the shared goal of bridging health gaps.
Our thanks to Unilab Foundation for inviting us to be part of the event. Indeed, the youth’s energy and genuine desire to create change with and for their fellow Filipinos were palpable. We are inspired and confident that the path ahead towards a healthier future for the Philippines is brightly lit with the youth’s service-driven passion.
